Please note the Panorama Route is not simply a scenic route on the main road from Johannesburg to southern Kruger Park. It is a rather long detour to the north and you will spend the first afternoon on this itinerary sightseeing. On Classic Kruger Park safaris, you would enter Kruger Park after lunch on Day 1 & begin game viewing immediately.
1st Day
Pick up and leave Johannesburg in our 7 seater microbus with an experienced Kruger Park driver / guide. Travel east across the Highveld grasslands towards the Drakensberg mountains before lunch. Visit Three Rondavels in the magnificent Blyde River Canyon, God's Window & other highlights of the Panorama Route. Browse at the informal markets for African curios. Drive down Kowyn's Pass to Hazyview then on to Sabie River Bush Lodge for overnight. Book into an en suite lodge room with aircon & modern furnishings. Time to relax on the deck looking across the extensive river for hippos & crocodile. Your guide will arrange dinner in the Gecko Lapa restaurant which serves a 3 course meal. 2nd Day
Awaken at sunrise, board the safari vehicle then head into Kruger Park for the early morning game drive. Travel through bushveld areas and probably along the river looking for Big 5 species ( lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo ). The Sabie River is a dominant feature of southern Kruger and travelling along the banks can be very exciting. After about 3 hours, stop at a Camp where your guide will provide breakfast packs and allow time to relax..Continue on the mid-morning drive with cameras ready for anything crossing the road then visit a waterhole to look for birds, crocodile and animals drinking. Later stop for a lunch break, check out the curio shop then continue with the afternoon drive. Most animals including the lions, move from shady trees as it gets cooler & begin grazing. Arrive back at Sabie River Bush Lodge - cool off in the pool, have a beer & watch the African sunset from the deck. Your guide will arrange dinner in the lapa restaurant which offers a set menu for the day.
3rd Day
Early breakfast at the lodge when you may see giraffe or impala coming to drink, then pack up & farewell to the staff. Head into Kruger for the first morning game drive searching for Big 5 species which can be found on most roads in southern Kruger. Stop at a picnic spot for refreshments & your guide will decide on the best route for the mid-morning drive when you can expect general game such as antelope, zebra & monkeys. Around lunchtime, arrive at Skukuza & book into an aircon chalet with screens to prevent insects. Time to cool off at the pool & go to the deli for lunch. Later board the National Parks safari vehicle with spotlights for a sunset drive ( duration 3 hrs ) to search for predators & other nocturnal species. After a memorable day on safari, join your guide for dinner in the Cattle Baron Bistro best known for its juicy steaks. WiFi will be available near the restaurant. Walk back to your chalet under the starlit sky.
4th Day
Join the group for coffee then head out for another exciting early morning game drive hoping to see elusive animals such as leopard often found in trees.
