Health Precautions when on safari in SOUTH AFRICA

GENERAL:
Kindly advise the office of any pre-exisiting condition as there may be factors for the guide to consider whilst on safari. Kindly remember that there may be others in your group. Our travellers are expected to be relatively fit as the programs can be tiring.

Whilst there is a medical practitioner at Skukuza, appointments are hard to come by unless it's an emergency. Even if you have health insurance, you will be responsible for settling the bill and then claiming upon your return. Consider bringing your own basic medications to treat mild diarrhoea, headaches and other aches and pains.

MALARIA:
We recommend that visitors consult their travel clinic or physician and advise anti-malaria medication during the rainy season from October to May. Wear protective clothing ( long pants, long sleeves, socks and closed shoes) & apply insect repellent in the evening and and re-apply at dawn. If you would like advice on when the rainy season actually begins, consult our sales team.

Some Bedrooms are fitted with insect screens / mosquito nets to protect visitors whilst sleeping. We do not consider our type of tours carry a high risk of contracting any illness and this is simply a precaution. Chat to your guide about additional measure once on tour.

YELLOW FEVER:
Please take note that the authorities at our points of entry, require visitors coming from countries infected with yellow fever ( including South America & Africa ) to have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (Yellow Card) . This also applies to travellers who have been to these countries in transit for example if you fly from USA via South America & on to South Africa . It is not possible to obtain a yellow fever vaccination on arrival in South Africa as it must be dated at least 10 days prior to arrival here . This is a serious warning & travellers will be refused entry to South Africa if they do not comply.

HEAT STROKE:
Summer can be very hot. We advise clients to keep body temperatures down by staying hydrated and by wearing appropriate clothing especially whilst in our OPEN SAFARI VEHICLE, using sunscreen and being aware that they are in Africa and drinking our delicious wine as a celebration of the day requires restraint.

TICK BITES
Clients joining guided walking tours should consider protective clothing to prevent tick bites. Wear long pants, sox and closed shoes so that your legs are not exposed to insects sitting in long grass as you walk through the bush.
